Our customized maps can be purchased digitally. Digital maps can be split into two groups: raster and vector. Examples of raster formats are JPEG, PNG, PDF. Known vector formats are: EPS, AI, PDF. Depending on the function of the map, a particular format is chosen. We also supply you with other formats such as SVG, DWG, and others.
Digital maps
In order to be able to edit a digital file, you always need a suitable software package. The most commonly used graphics packages are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, usually for the (semi) professional user. These software packages aren't free mind you. So you're looking at a monthly investion. Another solution is to get your hands on an outdated, cost-free version. This might require some inventive Googling though. There are also simpler programs available for download, such as Irfanview or Gimp. This allows you to perform simple map transformations. These programs are somewhat more advanced than the now belated 'Paint'.
Vector format
Vector files are not composed of pixels but from points, lines, and planes. Vector files can be expanded without any distortion, the image remains sharp. In addition, the map elements can be customized. For example, roads can be converted, made thicker or dotted. Also the color per map element can be easily adjusted.
Vector files are usually provided as an AI- or EPS file. (Adobe Illustrator, Encapsulated PostScript)
Raster
Raster files are built from pixels, in most cases these are JPEG or PNG files. These files can be edited in Photoshop or simpler programs such as Gimp or Irfanview. Cutouts can be made, colours can be modified, and additional information such as dots or arrows can be placed in extra layers.
Print (offset), print and display images
Our files are delivered in 300DPI (Pixels Per Inch). That is, 300 pixels per 1 inch (2.5 cm). 300DPI is suitable for offset printing (high quality). Print and plot (single layers) is done at atleast 150DPI. The number of DPI for computer monitors differs today by manufacturer. For example, there are screens from 93DPI (Monitor), up to 577DPI (Last generation of smartphones). We can deliver all our maps with any amount of DPI needed.
